AFRICA – The African Development Bank (AfDB) has appointed Mr. Simon Mizrahi and Mr. Jacques Edjangue new Vice presidents.

Mr. Simon Mizrahi has been appointed as Acting Vice President, Technology and Corporate Services Complex, effective 20 June 2022 and Mr. Jacques Edjangue as Acting Vice President, People and Talent Management Complex.

Mizrahi, a British national, is currently the Director for Delivery, Performance Management and Results at the African Development Bank Group and Acting Director for the Operations Committee Secretariat and Quality Assurance.

In these capacities, he oversees results delivery on the Bank’s multi-billion annual investments across the African continent and engages with the Board of Directors and donors on the full complexity of the Bank’s development challenges.

“I am humbled and deeply honoured that Dr. Adesina has appointed me to this new and very exciting position. Innovation and technology have the potential to revolutionise the way the Bank operates and does business in Africa,” Mizrahi commented on his appointment.

“The Bank has an amazing and highly skilled staff and I look forward to working with them to harness the transformative energy of technology to better support the Bank’s corporate services and realise its development goals.”

Commenting on the appointment, president of the African Development Bank Group, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina said: “I am pleased to appoint Simon Mizrahi into this new role of Acting Vice President for Technology and Corporate Services to lead the drive for full digitalisation of the Bank, deployment of big data analytics, robotics, machine learning and other IT tools and systems to revamp how we do business, including cybersecurity to protect ourselves.”

Mr. Jacques Edjangue, a Cameroonian national, is currently Acting Director of the Human Resources Management Department, and also Director of the Language Services Department. A thought leader, Jacques has broad and diverse experience within the African Development Bank.

As Director of the Language Services Department, he transformed and enhanced the quality of its services by introducing a series of reforms and innovations.

These include leveraging and optimizing information technology for language services, setting up cutting-edge technology in translation services, setting up a workflow for interpretation services, and modernizing the language services using artificial intelligence and neural networks.

As Acting Director of the Human Resources Management Department, a function he has occupied since June 2020, Edjangue has overseen the design and implementation of a series of initiatives and major landmark reforms that include a comprehensive review of Staff Regulations and Staff Rules and a review of the Performance Management Framework.

“I would like to thank President Adesina for this appointment which allows me to further provide leadership and direction to the re-engineering, management and implementation of the Bank’s human resources institutional development strategies and priorities,” said Edjangue.

Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, said: “The new Vice Presidency for People and Talent Management was created to give greater priority and visibility to people, skills and talent management, and to further deepen staff engagement and overall work experience of staff and all others working at the Bank. I am pleased to appoint Jacques as the Acting Vice President of the People and Talent Management Complex.”
