SOUTH AFRICA – Middle Eastern airline Emirates, based in Dubai, has signed an interline agreement with local private operator Cemair that opens up connections to six more destinations in South Africa.

This is the first partnership between the two airlines and Emirates’ fourth airline partnership in South Africa.

The arrangement includes offering single ticket itineraries with onwards booking and baggage transfers from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Margate, Durban, Hoedspruit, Plettenberg Bay, George and Sishen.

Emirates also has interline and codeshare partnerships with South African Airways, Airlink and Flysafair to drive more connectivity options.

The airline boosted its South African operations earlier this month and is presently operating 14 flights a week into South Africa via Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

Emirates currently flies to more than 120 destinations globally.

Few weeks ago, Airlink and Emirates agreed to expand their existing partnership into a unilateral codeshare agreement across Airlink’s network of more than 40 domestic and regional destinations across 12 African countries.

The extended codeshare provides connectivity to Airlink and Emirates customers not offered by any other carrier in Africa, and augments the long-standing partnership that Emirates has with South African Airways.

The move comes as Emirates resumes its flights to South Africa and ramps up its operations to provide customers with enhanced connectivity via its gateways Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.

Emirates has boosted its operations into South Africa. It also continues to expand its presence in South and Southern Africa through building strong relationships with airline partners like Airlink and is driving more connectivity options.

Emirates’ chief commercial officer, Adnan Kazim said that they are committed to growing our operations in South Africa, and with the strong connection opportunities being provided collectively with Airlink we hope to help jumpstart the recovery of the local travel and tourism industry.
