NIGERIA – Chams Plc, a leading Indigenous Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Company in Nigeria, has announced the appointment of Mr. Gavin Young as its new Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Young succeeds Mr. Sunday Olufemi Williams, who is retiring from the company after 28 years of service.

A statement from the company stated that Young’s appointment takes effect as from November 1, 2019.

A notification from the company signed by the Company Secretary, Mrs. Yetunde Emmanuel, stated that Williams had already proceeded on a three-month terminal leave as from September this year.

The statement also revealed that Young was going to step into the Group MD position in acting capacity until November, after which he becomes the groups substantive MD and CEO.

 “I am very confident in the capacity of Gavin to lead Chams to the next level and assure all our stakeholders of a smooth transition as Gavin already understands the system,” Williams said.

Young is a seasoned Fintech professional with a proven track record in managing companies with specific focus on all areas of Electronic Banking and Fintech.

Young started his career at the First National Bank of South Africa, a company which he would later work for almost 20 years.

He has also worked for Visa as Country Manager for a period of 7 years and in 2007, Young joined the United Bank of Africa as the bank’s Senior General Manager in charge of Cards.  

Young joined Chams Plc Group of Companies in 2009 and has served the company in various capacities the notable ones being Managing Director of ChamsSwitch and Deputy managing Director of Chams Mobile.

Cham’s is an indigenous ICT company providing enterprise technology solutions in the identity management and transaction payments space to public and private sector institutions.

It was founded in 1992 and has gradually grown and is now a market leader in ICT providing identication and verification solutions to major institutions including Customs Nigeria, Nigeria Air Force and the Head of Service of the Federation.

Chams was also a key player in the recently concluded Verification Number Project for Nigeria’s banking industry handling execution and deployment of the solutions and agents for the project.
