EGYPT – Infinity, a leading renewables energy solutions provider, has announced its aim to launch over 300 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2023 in Egypt and planned to invest around EGP300 million (US$19 million) to reach this milestone.

The company already has an existing network of over 40 charging stations with more than 150 charging points.

Since 2018, Infinity has been establishing the fastest growing EV charging network throughout Egypt. Infinity’s charging stations are equipped with EVBox chargers, Europe’s leading electric vehicle charging manufacturer and provider, and are capable of charging at least two electric vehicles simultaneously with certain stations allowing concurrent charging of up to six vehicles.

All stations are built in confirmation to EU standards and cater to Type 2 charger cables. Alternatively, EV owners can also use adapter cables to charge their cars at the stations. The stations are equipped with double-socket 22KW-AC-chargers as well as fast-charging DC chargers, which are available in major stations, providing an output of 50 KW.

“We are committed in our efforts towards building a robust ecosystem for electric vehicles in Egypt, in line with the government’s vision of transforming consumer transportation in the country,” Shams Abdel Ghaffar, Managing Director, Infinity EV Division, said.

“We have already established the largest EV charging network in the country and expect to continue growing this network over the next few years.

“We hope that through our efforts we can lay the groundwork in Egypt for a smoother transition to EVs and build confidence in consumers around EVs as a reliable mode of transportation, going forward.”

Infinity provides EV charging via a charging card which is available on request on the Infinity website. Charging is currently free of any cost and this facility will be available until the government announces EV charging tariff laws.

The company also runs the necessary operations and maintenance services for all charging locations ensuring the network remains functional, reliable and secure at all times.

Infinity’s charging stations are currently located on all major road networks between Cairo, Hurghada, Alexandria and Ismaileya, with plans for expansion across more major road networks in place for 2021.

Within Cairo, Infinity charging stations can be found in many ChillOut and Wataneya gas stations as well as in several real estate compounds such as Palm Hills, New Giza, SODIC as well as commercial outlets such as Almaza City Centre, Downtown Mall Road 90 and Gezira Club October. The company also offers EV charging solutions for companies as well as home chargers for personal use.
