EGYPT – Italian oil and gas company Eni has discovered new gas deposits in Egypt’s resource rich Nile Delta Region.
The company in a statement explained that the discovery was in its first exploration in a well that it is developing in cooperation with BP and Total.
The well according to Eni, is located in the North El Hammad, 12 kilometers away from the Nooros field and around 1 kilometers away from Baltim South West field.
Eni further noted that the newly discovered prospect christened “Bashrush”, will be soon tested for production.
According to Eni, the well could be harbouring a gas column with a thickness of 152 meters within the Messinian age sandstones of the Abu Madi formation.
“The discovery of Bashrush is a demonstration of the effectiveness of Eni’s ‘incremental’ exploration strategy, aimed at selecting high value opportunities and ensuring fast development of the new discoveries through existing infrastructures,” Eni said in a statement.
Eni further noted that, “In parallel with the development activities associated with this new discovery, Eni will continue to explore the “Great Nooros Area” with the drilling, this year, of another exploration well called Nidoco NW-1 DIR, located in the Abu Madi West concession.
In coordination with the Egyptian Petroleum Sector, the three block partners; Eni, BP, and Total, are set to commence screening the development options of the new discovery.
The development of the discovery is expected to be fast tracked for production through synergies with the area’s existing infrastructures.
In October last year, Eni announced the discovery of new resources in Abu Rudeis Sidri development lease, in the Gulf of Suez, with estimations to contain about 200 million barrels of oil in place.
The company had at the time explained that the well will have an expected initial flow rate of about 5,000 barrels per day.
Eni, through its affiliate IEOC, is operator of the North El Hammad concession with a 37.5% stake while BP holds a 37.5% stake and Total the remaining 25% interest.
