KENYA – Kenindia Assurance Company Limited has appointed Mr Bhawani Shanker Sharma as its managing director. He succeeds Mr Inderjeet Singh who joined New India Assurance Company Limited as the new general manager.

He brings with him a wealth of leadership experience spanning over 32 years on general insurance operations in underwriting, claims and administration, and all insurance marketing channels.

He will be tasked with building upon Kenindia’s already strong position in the country, by enhancing the focus on delivering innovative products and services to the company’s growing customer base.

In addition, Mr Sharma will be working closely with the leadership team to expand the company’s presence among the millennials through its soon to be launched mobile-based platform that will be primarily targeting youths in the country.

The chairman of Kenindia’s board of directors Mr M N Mehta welcomed Mr. Sharma saying: “On behalf of the board, I am glad that we have been able to tap into the services of an industry veteran.

“Through his leadership, I am certain that we will continue growing at a fast pace, delivering our products and services and the sense of security to our customers. His zeal coupled with his rich and diverse experience, will be of immense value towards strengthening our market position in the country.”

Accepting his new appointment, Sharma said he is honoured to have been granted the opportunity to represent the respected organisation as its managing director.

“I look forward to working with the team to build a superior customer experience geared towards continued profitable growth of Kenindia and extending our products and services to every corner of the country,” he added.

In his most recent role, Mr Sharma was the managing director and chief executive officer of Tanzindia Assurance Limited in Tanzania. During this time, he built a high-performing team. Prior to joining Tanzindia Assurance, he served as the regional manager at Maruti Motor Tie, Delhi, India.

Mr. Sharma had also worked for Oriental Insurance Company Limited in India for over 30 years where he served in various positions raising to senior management.

He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and Bachelor of Law degree and is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of India.

Kenindia Assurance Company Ltd was formed in 1978 when several Indian Insurance companies operating in Kenya decided to merge to form one unit. The company currently provides a wide portfolio of insurance products in the general insurance segments.
