KENYA – Poland-based home fittings manufacturer Fakro has entered the Kenyan and East African real estate market after signing a distributorship agreement with Nairobi’s Classic Mouldings.

Classic Mouldings has been appointed the region’s sole distributor for Fakro’s windows, light tunnels, underlays for roofs and chimney flashings.

Classic Mouldings said that the products are targeting the growing number of developers who are warming up to green or sustainable buildings.

“Other than enhancing the look and feel of the house, these products also enable the house owner to use natural light and conserve energy.

They also help transform the house attic, which is often an ignored part of the house, to a stylish usable space in the house,” said Classic Mouldings chief executive Moshe Noiman.

The company is training artisans on installation and opening up new showrooms to push the products across major towns.

“Classic Mouldings is also putting final touches to a new showroom at Westcom Building in Westlands, which is scheduled to open doors to clients in mid-March.

This will be followed by the opening of an outlet in Eldoret later on in the year and then Kisumu next year,” added Mr Noiman.

The firm currently has two showrooms, one in Nairobi and another in Mombasa.

Sustainable or green buildings are becoming more common in both small and large-scale developments with developers installing solar panels and increasing the use of glass. Both measures are meant to reduce electricity use.

Garden City mixed development along Thika Road, Centum’s Two Rivers mixed development in Runda suburb of Nairobi and Nairobi Business Park Phase II along Ngong Road are some major developments that are embracing green or sustainable development.

Strathmore University has also put up structures with emphasis on environmental sustainability.
