Safaricom Ethiopia in staff recruitment drive as it gears up for launch

ETHIOPIASafaricom Ethiopia has announced a countrywide staff recruitment drive in Ethiopia as it gears up for commercial launch.

The telcos Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa said that they have also made some critical steps towards getting their foundation ready for commercial operations including plans to hire and train local Ethiopians to various opportunities.

Ndegwa said they have committed to recruit 150 diverse graduates a year for the next three years.

Speaking during a media conference, CEO Peter Ndegwa said Safaricom is looking forward to working and serving with the people of Ethiopia to create a robust network that will benefit this country.

“We are preparing for deployment of network and IT equipment to provide world-class digital services across all regions in Ethiopia, boost the digital economy and drive economic transformation,” he said.

“We look forward to increasing connectivity, providing best in class mobile telephony services, creating new digital businesses, and generating new jobs for citizens across the country,” he added.

During the press briefing, the CEO introduced its leadership team who affirmed commitment to investing in Ethiopia’s digital future ahead of the launch.

He said global partnership is the building block of digital transformation. 

“And I would like to thank all our partners for their support as we work towards enabling our commercial launch and contribution to digital Ethiopia as a purpose-led technology company,” he said.

“We look forward to increasing connectivity, providing best in class mobile telephony services, creating new digital businesses, and generating new jobs for citizens across the country"

He said they plan is to invest over US$8.5 billion over the next 10 years to future-proof digital infrastructure and strengthen the digital capacity in the country.

“We are looking forward to working and serving with the people of Ethiopia to create a robust network that will benefit this country. We look forward to increasing connectivity, providing best in class mobile telephony services, creating new digital businesses, and generating new jobs for citizens across the country,” he said.

Mr. Ndegwa also affirmed the commitment of Safaricom Ethiopia PLC to work with local companies and ethio telecom to quickly roll out its services.

Managing Director Safaricom Ethiopia Anwar Soussa provided updates on the preparations.

“As we get ready to build and drive a new digital experience for Ethiopians, we are creating an occasion for more people to open themselves up to the never-ending opportunities in a digital economy,” Soussa said.

Soussa said one of the commitments Safaricom has made was to create and sustain 1.5 million jobs over the next 10 years.
