KENYA – Spanish delivery company Glovo has expanded its service in Kenya by launching in Mombasa in a bid to reach more customers.

The move will now see residents of Mombasa experience faster on-demand deliveries on categories such as food, groceries, drinks and courier services from different outlets within the town.

The start-up, which launched in Kenya in January with operations in Nairobi, Kitengela and Nakuru. It already has partnerships with outlets such as Chicken Inn, Java House and Naivas supermarkets which operate in Mombasa

Speaking during the official launch of the new city, William Benthall, Glovo’s General Manager for Kenya, expressed his optimism towards the new venture. “Our expansion to Mombasa was informed by our wider goal to have a presence in all the towns in the country. We are continually onboarding more partners so as to serve our customers better and offer the best delivery services in the country”.

Glovo is now operating in Karen, Mombasa Rd up to GM, Thika Rd up to Roysambu & Kasarani, Kiambu Rd up to Thindigua, Limuru Rd up to Ruaka, Waiyaki Way up to Mountain View, Ngong Rd up to Karen, Langáta Rd up to Galleria, Eastlands – Nyayo Estate, Tassia, Fedha, KQ Pride Center, Kitengela, Nakuru and recently Mombasa.

While it has partnered with 120 motorcycle riders for its Nairobi outfit, the tech firm said it had roped in roller skaters to handle deliveries within Nairobi’s Central Business District where riders have been banned.

Glovo handles food, groceries, drinks and courier services and has signed partnership agreements with Java House, Zucchini Greengrocers, Carrefour. Others are Naivas and Onn, The Way Supermarkets as well as fast food outlets operator, Simbisa Africa (Chicken Inn, Pizza Inn and Creamy Inn) and restaurant chain, Artcaffe.

Glovo is an app that allows one to buy, collect and send any product within the same city at a time, in under an hour.

Glovo was founded in 2015 in Barcelona and has since then expanded operations to 3 continents. It has more than 5.5 million unique users and 16,000 associated partners. It operates in 124 cities across 25 countries, including EEMEA, LATAM, and most recently in Sub Saharan Africa. In Africa it is available in Kenya, Morocco, Egypt, and Ivory Coast.
