EGYPT – Uber Egypt has appointed Ahmad Hammouda as the new General Manager for the country in charge of local operations, effective immediately.

Ahmad Hammouda is the company’s operations executive and succeeds Abdellatif Waked who was promoted to be the General Manager for Uber in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

In his newly appointed role, Hammouda will oversee the strategy for creating more access and expansion of new products and locations across the country.

According to a statement issued by the transportation company, he has worked in different leadership roles with operations team since he joined Uber Egypt in 2017, that included the launch of UberScooter and Uber Eats in Egypt.

“I am proud to see Hammouda step into this critical role to lead one of Uber’s most important markets.

We fully trust him to achieve Uber’s vision and lead on our growth in Egypt with his proven capabilities and having already been actively involved in the planning, strategy, and operations for the company’s local and regional activities over the last couple of years,” said Abdellatif Waked, General Manager of Uber MENA.

Before joining Uber, Ahmad worked in the M&A division of Cairo-based financial services firm CI Capital Investment Banking.

Speaking on his appointment, Ahmad Hammouda said, “As a big believer in Uber’s vision on bringing new modalities to the market to provide accessible and low-cost transport options to millions of Egyptians, I am really honored to be one of the lead contributors for fulfilling this vision.”

“Having witnessed the launch of Uber Scooter and Uber Bus in the past two years as well the provision of more than 200,000 economic opportunities makes me very optimistic about the upcoming period.”

Last year, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi last year launched UberBus, the ride-hailing app’s answer to Egypt’s congestion and mass transportation problems.

The firm also introduced Uber Lite, a lighter version of the Uber app for drivers in the market.

The simpler version of the Uber app works on any android phone, while saving storage space and data, with the advantage that it’s easy to learn and use, and it’s designed to work even in low connectivity areas.
